Alanis Smith
Attorney

Attorney Alanis Smith received her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. During her time at Wayne, she helped organize a 5k run that raised funds for the Public Interest Law Fellowship and served as a student attorney at the Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer Clinic. There, she developed and executed legal plans for clients facing cancer-related challenges, including life planning (wills, healthcare powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney, deeds), public benefits, Medicaid, and housing issues. Her work with social security matters particularly inspired her to pursue a role at DLG.

Prior to law school, Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Michigan State University (MSU).

Before joining DLG, she gained practical experience as a legal assistant and, after her first year of law school, became a law clerk at an estate planning firm.

In high school and throughout her undergraduate studies, Ms. Smith volunteered with the Proud Equestrians Program, a therapeutic horseback riding initiative for individuals with disabilities that promotes balance, coordination, posture, and muscle tone. During her time with the program, she taught children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities how to ride horseback as a form of therapy.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring new restaurants, and traveling to the East Coast to visit her extended family and enjoy the beaches.
